Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to captain England tomorrow in the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against San Marino.

The FA have confirmed that the Old Trafford star will take the Three Lions armband for only the second time – the first was for a friendly against Brazil in 2009.

Rooney also has experience of captaining at club level, having previously worn the armband for Manchester United.

England manager, Roy Hodgson, has picked Rooney due to regular captain Steven Gerrard serving a suspension for picking up two bookings in the previous qualifier against Ukraine, while vice-captain Frank Lampard misses out through injury.

Rooney will lead the side out at Wembley in a game where England are expecting to win comfortably, as San Marino are the lowest ranked international side in Europe.

It is not the only piece of good news for the Old Trafford favourite to come in the last 24 hours, he recently revealed that he and his wife, Colleen, are expecting their second child.
